After quite a few leaks in the last few hours, HTC has finally
officially announced its latest flagship – the One. The One is a typical
HTC handset with an unibody aluminium fit-and-finish. The handset
sports a 4.7-inch Super LCD 3 display with a resolution of 1080p (1920*1080) and a ppi of 468. The front of the handset is protected by the Gorilla Glass 2 interrupted by the dual-stereo speakers that come with their own dedicated amps for BoomSound.
Inside, the One is among the first Android smartphones to make use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 SoC clocked at 1.7GHz and an Adreno 320 GPU. There is also 2GB of RAM, and 32 or 64GB of on-board memory. The usual bunch of connectivity features and sensors are also present, except for a microSD card slot.
On the software side, HTC has blessed the One with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and a brand new version of Sense. In its fifth version, the Sense homescreen has BlinkFeed that aggregates all your social networking updates and notification right on your homescreen. The homescreen design has definitely been inspired from Flipboard.
A few unique features of the One include a 2.1MP front-facing camera with an 88-degree wide-angle view, first seen on the 8X, an IR blaster that is integrated into the Power button of the handset, and a brand new UltraPixel camera at the back. The One ‘only’ comes with a 4MP f/2.0 camera at its back. However, the sensor is capable of capturing 300 percent more light thus allowing for some stunning pictures. It is also capable of recording 1080p videos at 60FPS, and features HTC’s ImageChip 2 along with Optical Image Stabilisation. HTC has also simplified the UI by only keeping the back and home button, and totally removing the Recents app button.
The HTC One will be available in the second half of March in silver or black across 185 carriers all over the world including T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T in the United States.
